KFC “FLOAT THRU” ON LAKE MICHIGAN

September 1st, 2009

kfcfloatthruWhile we’d rather be presented with freshly caught snapper or scallops off the bbq, we still kind of like this attempt at sampling on the water. Last weekend on Lake Michigan KFC’s floating restaurant offered boaties and jetskiers the opportunity to pull up for a free sample of the newest items on their Value Menu. As so often occurs with outdoor activity here in NZ, the weather didn’t cooperate fully so for much of the time the boat was forced to dispense the freebies from the safety of the dock. Nonetheless a nice effort to add another layer of activity to a sponsored property, in this case a pro volleyball tournament that was taking place on one of the lake’s beaches.

SOUTHWEST AIRLINES PORCH IN BRYANT PARK

June 28th, 2009

southwest-porch-group-low-resOkay so we’re biased because the park concerned is named after Viv’s family (just kidding) but this is a great example of a big brand executing locally in the centre of bustling Manhattan. Southwest Airlines has set up an outdoor porch in Bryant Park (in the south west corner of course) to get the word out about its new services out of LaGuardia Airport. Visitors can relax in rocking chairs or porch swings and, in addition to being able to book flights and find out about the airline’s frequent flyer progamme, enjoy low-cost Southwestern menu items on weekday evenings. The menu is inspired by Southwest Airline’s destinations, such as soft-shell crab sandwiches from Baltimore, bratwurst from Chicago and a meatball sandwich. The food is provided by renowned chef Tom Colicchio and his ‘wichcraft restaurants, one of which is located in Bryant Park (also home to NY Fashion Week and the famous library steps where Big jilted Carrie in a certain movie).

May 6th, 2009

T-Mobile got plenty of attention for their dance stunt in London’s Liverpool Street Station (as well as great footage for a TVC) and they were at it again on April 30 in Trafalgar Square, this time with the public invited in advance. Beatles lovers may want to block their ears!

MOM – I WANNA SLEEPOVER AT THE SMITHSONIAN!!!

April 30th, 2009

museum2It’s not the most earth-shattering concept but Hershey’s current “Win a Night in the Museum” sales promotion in the US is a nice example of a promo incorporating a sponsored property, in this case the upcoming movie Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian. While I’d rather sleep elsewhere, if you’re a fan of the franchise (does a two movie series qualify as a franchise?) or one of those kids that has to be dragged away from the dinosaur skeletons, I can imagine the thought of spending a night “on-set”, so to speak, would be pretty cool.
